High Speed Internet Your Way
Regarding the internet service provider that you decide to go with, we are, for the most part, neutral. We have wholesale, resale, and agent agreements with the vast majority of service providers, ranging from the largest to the smallest. It is up to you to decide.
After conducting research on your location, we will present you with all of the available service alternatives and price based on your selection. Although it might sound unusual, we should be able to beat the price that you are already paying or that is being given by the same firm.
ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
Used to be the most common type of domestic broadband connection. It is generally the slowest (but not always) and cheapest on the market so Ok for low users and still the only option for many. Connectivity is via a Copper line and the delivered speed will depend on how far away you are from the exchange. Can be used for both Internet and Voice traffic. A good ADSL download speed would be 8-10mbps.
ADSL2+
If you a business or a high domestic user and the only option is ADSL go for ADSL2+ - you get twice as much bandwidth along the existing copper line and download speeds can be as high as 24mbps you also get priority when the exchange is busy.
SoTAP - Single Order Transitional Access Product
The latest technology which upgrades your current ADSL connection, you don’t get better speeds but removes the copper line voice traffic and saves you the line rental - you just pay for the Broadband - Only available in some areas at the moment.
FTTC - Fibre to the Cabinet
Still relies on a copper line for the final delivery to the premises but fibre optic Broadband is delivered direct to your local cabinet and from there to your property. On the whole speeds are far better than ADSL but can be hindered by how many properties are sharing the cabinet source and peak times can also be slower. Can be used for both Internet and Voice traffic. You will pay for either a 40/10 or 80/20 speed (download/upload) but you are not guaranteed that as your delivered speed, it will depend on how far away you are from the cabinet and as above, how many properties are sharing it.
SoGEA
Single Order Generic Ethernet Access - latest technology which upgrades your current FTTC connection, you may get better speeds and it removes the copper line voice traffic so saving you the line rental - you just pay for the Broadband - Only available in some areas at the moment.
FTTP - Fibre to the Premises
This is your own designated Fibre Optic connection from the exchange direct to your property - no sharing and you get the speeds you pay for.
Used to be very expensive but prices are coming down all the time as OpenReach and other independent suppliers roll out the infrastructure across the country.
Once it is in your area you may have to switch to FTTP - no choice given - This is broadband only - no voice traffic - so you need to select an IP/VoIP supplier, you also need to secure your phone number if needed. But don’t panic we do all this for you.
For speeds, if you go for anything above 100mbps make sure all your kit is gigabit enabled otherwise you won’t see the benefit.
